Jonaskop     Invitational    6 th December  2008

1.  Featuring only a selected few. A few good men (and women)

2.   50 of the Best (athletes that can climb and not give up, come rain or shine, who gives no mercy and expect nothing in return, one who can turn up the heat and find another gear when called upon, that can push new limits and go beyond what is thought to be possible)

3.    There won’t be prizes for the winners. (It’s not about the money – it’s about pride, self respect and the will to hang on) There is however a highly valued trophy.

4.     The climb:  15 km   1200m gain.  8% avg. gradient, 90% tarred surface

5.     Start time 7.00 am.  Cars will convene at entrance to Osdrift at 6:00 am

6.    Race Format:
a. Handicap awarded to every participant and start in reverse order, so that every one finishes at the same time at the top. First to the top – winner for 2008 and receives the Jonaskop Trophy
b. Time taken to determine fastest climber on the day – shortest time – King of the mountain - King Jonas – No trophy

c. Team event: Shortest combined time of 4 climbers. Worcester vs. Paarl vs. Stellenbosch vs. Cape Town (Invitations sent at Committee’s discretion!)  Granite Trophy for this Category

7.   Race committee award handicaps. With last year’s experience and success, formula should virtually stay the same.

8.  Race committee’s decision is final( unless substantial bribes are offered )

9.   Entry fee ( to be advised )mainly for breakfast at Osdrift homestead afterwards. No summit, no breakfast.

Due to uncalled-for comments after the Jonas kop Invitational 2007, the Race committee has decided to make the proses as transparent as possible. Participants could even enter their own time, with the proviso that if your time on the day is more than 3 minutes faster, immediate disqualification from the a. format , but
your time for the b. format will be taken into account.( It could thus be a safe option to leave the handicap in the safe hands of the committee.)
